The University Libraries Open Publishing Program is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student worker who is interested in aspects of publishing and basic web design/content management to assist in the duties and responsibilities of the publishing program, specifically with the migration of content into the program’s publishing platforms. The Open Publishing Program currently publishes eight open access journals, five bibliographies, one monograph, and one topical web portal publication, with more publications set to be migrated and published. The program uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) to publish the journal content, and Drupal to publish the bibliographies, topical web portals, and monographs. Responsibilities may include uploading back content of new journals into the journal publishing review system OJS (HTML and PDF documents); migrating bibliography content into Drupal by preparing Excel file content for upload; editing journal content for web accessibility by making PDF documents accessible before uploading; some basic web design tasks (editing and/or writing HTML/CSS) for journal webpage customization, based on applicant’s skillset. Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Suite strongly preferred, with interest in, or a basic understanding of, HTML/CSS encouraged. Successful candidates should also have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
