Penn State seeks a counselor/coordinator dedicated to providing a high level of direct, personal service and programs to ensure high school students' successful admission and matriculation to Penn State. Responsible to the Assistant Director of Multicultural Outreach for recruitment, programming and evaluation activities targeting underrepresented students with a focus on LatinX recruitment, along with assistance in handling general admissions matter. Responsibilities will also include creating/coordinating regional programming tailored to LatinX families/community/audience nationally and collaboration with Penn State campuses and regional recruitment offices. Qualifications: Exceptional interpersonal skills; enthusiasm for, and demonstrated commitment to, supporting students and families from a wide range of backgrounds; the ability to communicate complex issues with clarity through excellent oral and written communications, coupled with a high comfort level with public speaking before large and small groups, effectively engaging audiences through dynamic presentations is essential; experience using data to measure and assess progress toward goals and revise practices as needed or directed; demonstrated aptitude for counseling students and families through the college application process; ability to multi-task in a fast paced, high-volume environment; a willingness to work extended and weekend hours, and travel as required; proficiency with Microsoft Office, and experience with the use of a CRM and admission management systems (preferably Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, or similar) preferred. Duties will include: recruiting and counseling prospective students, reviewing transcripts and evaluating applications; participation in campus and regional activities, assisting in community relations activities, and assisting in planning and organizing special programs. Represent the University by assisting in recruitment events to include high school visits, college fairs, and other events. Represent the Admissions Office and Penn State at admissions meetings, campus-based activities, and other visiting groups. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires operation of a motor vehicle as a part of the job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Access to personal transportation is also required. Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) candidates preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy are essential. Previous recruitment/admissions experience, particularly in urban schools with ethnically underrepresented students, is a highly valued experience.
