The Information Technology Services Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator. This position will be focused on the support and administration of one office at ARL; however, it may be utilized to support Lab-wide enterprise IT resources as well. Responsibilities include: Administration of various operating system distributions; provide support for server and network infrastructure; oversight of the installation and configuration of systems to comply with Government regulations; implement system and software testing; troubleshoot technical issues; respond and evaluate system and network security incidents; maintain and update documentation for systems and networks; evaluate potential equipment components and software; present system and network security principles and technology solutions to diverse audiences; and provide technical guidance to other ARL staff. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Science and Technology is desired. An IT security certification is preferred. Experience working with the Department of Defense or Federal-related computing systems is highly preferred. Experience and knowledge with the following specific technologies is highly desirable: System virtualization; LDAP authentication and management; storage architecture technologies; systems management; systems integration in a heterogeneous network environment; active directory/group policy; and advanced networking skills. Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills; the ability to multi-task; and possessing a good comfort level working in a diverse atmosphere is also required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
