The Materials Research Institute (MRI) is seeking an Engineering Support Specialist level 3 to support building wide research through technical repair/set-up on research equipment. This position would support the three core user facilities and various faculty labs housed in the Millennium Science Complex by assisting in design, fabrication, assembly and troubleshooting of research systems/equipment. This includes the purchase, set-up, and repair of equipment and calibration/testing for a wide range of both commercial and experimental systems. This includes but is not limited to equipment interlocks, manifolds to interface with building wide facilities, cable fabrication and electronics troubleshooting. Additional responsibilities include designing/fabrication of specialized parts, selection of proper parts, preventative maintenance, written procedures or documentation of process and instrument set-up for both standard and non-standard equipment. Typically requires a Associate's degree or higher in a technical program or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and electronics/instrumentation are necessary. A basic understanding of vacuum systems is also highly desirable. The candidate must also be able to read mechanical drawings. This position also includes safety responsibilities to help ensure students, faculty and staff are working in safe environments. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to be a self-starter and meet objectives in a timely manner. This position works both individually and as part of a team, so good communication is a must. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
