Description

Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) is seeking a Community Health Educator (CHE) for Individual Health Education to provide individual assessments and services for students with alcohol or marijuana policy/law violations or alcohol overdoses. The Community Health Educator reports directly to the Assistant Director of the BASICS and Marijuana Intervention Programs. Primary responsibilities include providing brief screening, individual assessment, intervention and referral. Additional responsibilities include conducting educational programming for student groups about wellness issues, as well as alcohol and other drugs. Student groups may include fraternities, sororities and academic classes. The individual is expected to be involved with the implementation of health promotion initiatives. The CHE is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for education and prevention practice within parameters set by relevant professional groups, state and federal agencies and accreditation bodies. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of and experience with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and motivational interviewing is preferred. Assessment and evaluation experience are important as well as a commitment to working with diverse populations. Outstanding interpersonal communication and dynamic leadership abilities are essential. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is an 91.7% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 11 months with month of July is off each year. Full Penn State benefits included.
