Description

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) seeks an Assistant Director to join the Office of Learning Design (LD). This Assistant Director would manage the Production and Multimedia Team, working closely with the Director and another Assistant Director, who leads the group’s Design Team. Work includes defining and prioritizing unit work objectives; managing deadlines; and, delegating tasks to production staff. This person would supervise one full-time staff employee and would be responsible for the ongoing hiring and supervision of 5-10 wage employees including student employees. The successful candidate would work closely with production staff, instructional designers, and faculty partners, to ensure the successful setup and delivery of over 300 course sections in Canvas annually. The candidate would assure that Canvas courses are built well and on time, assess and manage course-building tasks; provide recommendations for future use and best practices; and, analyze the usefulness of specific features. Our courses include multiple content elements in Canvas in course templates and are delivered via World Campus. The candidate would proactively identify course-related issues and improvements, and develop related solutions to be carried out by production staff. The person in this position would support, develop, and implement all production and multimedia solutions to maintain, improve, and deliver IST's extensive portfolio of courses each semester. Project management, course tracking systems, and collaboration tools are used extensively. Responsibilities include further development of project management systems and resources, working collaboratively with stakeholders to lead and further innovation, accessibility, consistency, and quality of all production and multimedia work, including both online and resident instruction for both graduate and undergraduate programs. The person in this position would have a thorough understanding of available production and multimedia resources, which would allow them to identify and implement appropriate solutions, offer insight and feedback, and generally enhance the work of staff and faculty partners. This position will support the innovation of new multimedia ideas, including creation, development, and revision of rich multimedia content to be embedded into courses. Candidates will make proactive recommendations for best practices and improvements in our processes, media and workflow, promote the accessibility of all related multimedia, and supervise the organization and maintenance of an extensive library of multimedia assets. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional software experience is preferred, especially with Smartsheet, Kaltura, and various educational technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and time management skills, are essential. Recent and extensive experience with Canvas, the Adobe Creative Suite (including Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) is a minimum requirement. Candidate should also have experience in learning and applying up-to-date techniques related to PSU visual identity standards, web standards, usability, user experience, responsive design, and accessibility. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
