Description

The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (University Park campus) has been providing technical assistance to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania facilities since 1947 relative to power distribution; controls such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA; motor/motor control (variable frequency drives); and lighting systems. Strong emphasis is placed on both design and operations and maintenance (including testing and commissioning) of power distribution systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for presentations and report preparation. The successful candidate will interact with skilled labor personnel, design professionals, and facility administrators, and be expected to provide education presentations in the form of short courses and workshops. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Additional years of experience preferred. Registration as a professional engineer preferred. The position is based in State College, PA; however, travel throughout PA is required (day and occasional overnight). This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Security clearances required. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Experience with conducting power system studies for distribution systems, power distribution design, design review and power system evaluation, electrical protection scheme development, testing and maintenance per NETA-MTS of low and medium voltage devices is strongly preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.
