The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is pleased to invite applications to fill a Financial Coordinator position. This is an important role in the Department’s Business Office, responsible for financial administration and purchasing; financial support for faculty; and analysis and oversight of the Department’s budgets and funds, research grants, subcontracts, and expenditures. The Department is home to 60 faculty, 400 graduate students, and 1300 undergraduate students. The faculty conduct in excess of $25M per year of funded research across a broad spectrum of areas. The Department offers separate B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in both mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering, including online graduate programs in both disciplines. The faculty conduct state-of-the-art research with connections to industry and government through corporate and international partnerships. Further information on the Department can be found at: Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, providing administrative and financial support for the department’s sponsored projects, research grants, endowments, gifts, and general funds. This includes pre- and post-award research administration including providing budget projections, monitoring expenditures in compliance with sponsor specifications, and preparing budgets and other elements of the proposal process; providing faculty support, including assisting faculty in managing individual cost centers, grants, subcontracts, start-up funds; monitoring and reporting financial activities and performance for World Campus courses; processing and approving transactions in Penn State systems (IBIS, WorkDay, WorkLion, SIMS, iStart); assisting the Department in managing matching and general funds; gathering information and assisting with the analysis of data related to Department performance, strategic development and benchmarking; assisting in implementing controls; interpreting, advising on, and disseminating financial policies and procedures to faculty and staff; serving as backup for other business processes and acting as delegate or proxy as needed; and supervising administrative support staff. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, plus six years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Experience with the Penn State systems is desirable. Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications is required, along with excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a high functioning team.
