Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive college of The Pennsylvania State University, one of the largest and most widely recognized institutions in the nation, invites applications and nominations for the position, Director, School of Public Affairs effective July 1, 2019. If you are, or know of, a visionary leader who is both an excellent communicator and strategic thinker who will bring intellectual curiosity and innovative thought, an engaging entrepreneurial spirit, and a notable reputation for working collaboratively with internal and external constituents to promote the growth of an academic unit that is on the cusp of achieving national prominence, then this is the position of challenge for you or that nominee. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in a (related) discipline of the School and have proven record of achievement that qualifies him or her for appointment as a full professor with tenure in the college. The Director is responsible for, and is expected to have demonstrated experience in, faculty development through a rigorous promotion and tenure review process, the ability to inspire scholarship at all levels and advocate on behalf of faculty, and clarify the distinction and champion the difference in the delivery of residential and online education. The Director will set the standards for intellectual engagement and promote high quality teaching, research, and service. He or she will effectively have budget oversight, represent, recruit, develop and retain faculty, staff and students of the unit’s programs and advocate for the future growth of a complex and diverse School to achieve excellence. The School of Public Affairs is one of Penn State Harrisburg’s five academic schools with over 30 highly-regarded, full-time faculty members. The School has a combined resident and online enrollment of about 1500 students and offers the following undergraduate and graduate programs: Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Science in Public Policy, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (certified by the Academy of Criminal Justice Science), Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, Master in Public Administration (NASPAA-accredited), Master of Health Administration, Intercollege Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Studies, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration. Penn State Harrisburg is located in Middletown, near the city of Harrisburg, the state capital of Pennsylvania. The College is easily accessible via interstate and rail routes from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. Penn State Harrisburg has an enrollment of more than 5000 resident instruction students, including a broad, diverse and non-traditional population and brings nationally accredited academic programs, award-winning faculty, and the resources of a world-class research university to Pennsylvania`s Capital Region. The College offers students the opportunity to earn baccalaureate degrees in 37 academic majors. As a graduate center, the College offers 27 master’s degrees and 3 doctoral degree programs.
