Description

The Department of Political Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position focused on race and ethnicity in any subfield of political science, with particular emphasis on American, Comparative or International Politics. This is an open-rank search that is part of a cluster hire within the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State (http://la.psu.edu/about/diversity-and-inclusion/faculty). The department particularly seeks individuals who build on the strengths of the department. Note that this position is separate and in addition to a simultaneous search being conducted by the Department of African American Studies, and interested candidates may apply to both positions (posting available at https://www.apsanet.org/CAREERS/eJobs/eJobs-Online/JBctl/ViewJob/JobID/4665). Faculty positions at Penn State involve substantial research support; in addition, junior positions offer significant release time. Tenure track candidates should have a record that demonstrates potential to build a strong publication record, to secure external funding, and to serve as an excellent teacher and mentor. Tenured applicants should already have developed a strong record in each of these three areas. Candidates must have their Ph.D. in hand by appointment date. Applications must be submitted online, and should include as attachments a cover letter explaining their research and teaching experience, a current CV, samples of scholarly writing, and teaching evaluations (with a key). All candidates for the rank of assistant professor should request letters from three references to be sent directly to plscapplications@psu.edu; candidates seeking a tenured appointment should e-mail the names and contact information for three individuals who have agreed to serve as a reference to that address. Application review will begin on October 10, 2018 and continue until the position is filled.
