The Sustainable Food Systems Program (SFSP) and Student Farm is seeking a Communications Intern for the 2018-19 school year to support the communications, marketing and outreach goals of the program. This paid position will work closely with the SFSP Director and Graphic Design Intern to initiate, coordinate and manage digital, print and creative media for the program. Hours are approximately 10-12 hours per week, with some fluctuation based on project load throughout the year. The position has a good possibility of continuation for multiple years. Pay is $11.00/hour. Responsibilities include: 1) Regularly update and edit the Student Farm website, including overall site structure and blog entries written by the Communications intern and other Student Farm interns; 2) Create and post social media content and news stories for Student Farm accounts across multiple platforms; 3) Serve as the primary media contact for the SFSP and communicate with local media to promote events and other opportunities; 4) Assist with creative marketing campaigns; 5) Maintain good communications between partners including the Sustainability Institute, Housing and Food Services, key colleges and student clubs; and 6) Track data relevant to program objectives, and perform recordkeeping duties. Qualifications are: 1) Current Penn State student with at least a 3.0 GPA; 2) Superb written, interpersonal and oral communication skills; 3) Ability to learn quickly, prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines and enjoy a fast-paced work environment; 4) Proficient understanding of AP style writing, adding content to Wordpress, and social media platforms; 5) Ability to work with diverse groups or individuals in indoor and outdoor settings; 6) Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage schedule independently; 7) An interest in and knowledge about food systems issues and concepts is strongly preferred; 8) Valid driver’s license, own transportation, computer and internet access.
