Description

The Office of Government and Community Relations is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to fill the newly-created position of Advocacy and Communications Manager. The successful candidate will coordinate the university’s broad-based advocacy effort that will engage alumni, students, employees, and friends of the university in advocacy activities at the federal, state, and local levels. The person selected for this position will also assist with official social media accounts, marketing materials, and presentations, and serve as the advisor to a university-affiliated student organization. Requirements for this position include the following: written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to present, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner; firm understanding of social networking, social media tools, and current advocacy tools and trends; experience building communities and engagement via social channels; ability to interact with a diverse array of teams; ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines; and experience communicating to government or political audiences. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic self-starter who is able to work in a team environment, manage multiple concurrent projects, show attention to detail, and be well-organized and flexible. They will exhibit an understanding of public relations principles and best practices and the ability to coordinate and work closely with Office of Strategic Communications on marketing and PR initiatives. Basic photo and video skills for social media content and demonstrated success using visual storytelling to drive engagement is desired. They will also show a passion for higher education and an appreciation and understanding of political audiences. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Applicants selected for interviews will be asked to provide related work samples. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
