The Pennsylvania State University, Office of Information Security is seeking a high-energy, highly motivated, and adaptable individual to fill a University-wide and highly collaborative role related to information security and compliance with regulatory and contractual data security requirements. This position will also assist with interpretation of contract terms and University Policies. This position is expected to: provide guidance on existing compliant information technology solutions; provide assistance in translating regulatory, contractual, or policy requirements into clear guidance; provide excellent customer support; and routinely interact in positive ways with University faculty and staff. Professionalism, flexibility, critical thinking, customer service experience, and self-management skills, in addition, to excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated success in conflict resolution, relationship building, and creative problem solving are also required. This position also requires the successful candidate to maintain a level of discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters, and the ability to work with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The successful candidate must be able to pass a background check. Possession of the following qualifications are preferred: passion for learning; adaptability; ability to provide leadership in assigned areas; strong organizational and multitasking skills; a basic understanding of information security concepts, standards, and best practices; a basic understanding of or familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local legislation such as FERPA, GLBA, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA; experience reading and interpreting regulations, contracts, and organizational policies and procedures; experience working within a higher education environment; ability to work independently and achieve objectives on complex projects running simultaneously; and excellent written and public speaking skills. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
