The Computing and Networks Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking to hire undergraduate students who are interested in working in a fast-paced and challenging environment, working across a variety of information technology disciplines including, but not limited to: Computer support; networking; systems administration; helpdesk; and cybersecurity. Responsibilities may include: End-user support; assist with installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and support of computing and network hardware and software; assist in the development of process and equipment documentation; assist with equipment inventory and auditing; assist with cybersecurity initiatives; assist with programming and software development tasks; and HDD destruction. Students in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year studying Information Science and Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates must be available to work through the summer of 2018, up to 40 hours week, and will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall/spring semesters. You must be professional, reliable, and self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and possess the ability to work effectively independently as well as on a team. Skill requirements include proficiency with Microsoft operating system and Office applications and strong trouble shooting skills. You will be required to travel between locations for equipment delivery and to provide support via University vehicle; therefore, you must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Previous experience in technical support roles, supporting Microsoft Windows systems in a domain environment, Mac OS X and iOS, and Linux, are preferred. Experience in configuration, installation, and support of network equipment, as well as technical writing and programming, are also preferred. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. Successful completion of motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
