Description

The Department of Plant Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking application for MS students to start in Fall 2018. An assistantship is available to assist in the Landscape Contracting Department. The student will be conducting research on the biological filtration of natural swimming pools (NSP). Potential projects and study objectives include plant tissue nutrient analysis, biological communities, bacterial populations and assessment of the ecosystem services of a NSP. The research will explore the potential of the NSP to act as a component of an integrative residential stormwater management system. Study of existing NSPs may be part of the project as well as controlled environment research in the greenhouse. Other potential research areas embrace landscape design combining aesthetics and site remediation. Assistantships include a competitive stipend and tuition waiver. Position requires admission to the Penn State Graduate School (http://gradschool.psu.edu/), and the Department of Plant Science Horticulture graduate program.
