Description

Penn State Schuylkill seeks to hire part-time Peer Tutors. Peer Tutors should be excellent students who set a good example for the students they will tutor—through their efficient study habits, excellent academic performance, and responsible behavior. Peer educators must be knowledgeable in their subject areas and capable of conveying that knowledge to others. To be a peer educator, a student must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and an A- or A in the subject(s) tutored. For most peer educator positions, student applicants should have sophomore standing, be enrolled at Penn State Schuylkill, and be recommended by the instructor(s) teaching the course(s) they will be tutoring. Peer educators also must be dependable, responsible, and patient. They must be get along well with others and work well collaboratively. The Learning Center expects employees to exemplify civil, courteous, and appropriate behavior at all times. Peer educators are expected to attend classes regularly, earn good grades honestly, be prompt for appointments and classes, take complete and organized notes, manage time efficiently, handle problems tactfully and effectively, and keep information regarding all students confidential. Duties to include: Work with individual students and groups, guiding them toward improved independent performance in their coursework and general academic skills. Conduct themselves courteously and professionally at all times. Fully understand and fully comply with all confidentiality practices. Attend training sessions as scheduled. Meet with students seeking academic assistance as assigned. Show up on time for all scheduled appointments and sessions. Work on improving their knowledge, skills, and effectiveness under the guidance of their professional mentors. Keep good, up-to-date records of sessions as required. Complete required paperwork fully, correctly, and on time. Maintain their strong academic standing—grades and integrity.
