Counselor (Academic Counselor or Assistant Director for Football Academic Support Services)
Coordinate the academic support and counseling services for assigned student-athletes in the sport of football. Track and monitor academic progress and eligibility according to NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University regulations. Teach in the Penn State Alumni Association First-Year Enrichment Program (first-year seminar course). Regularly communicate student-athlete academic progress to coaching staff, administration, and the Director of the Morgan Academic Center. Meet with prospective student-athletes as required. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director. Experience in academic counseling/advising or academic support services required. General knowledge of NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University academic policies preferred. Weekend and evening work hours will be required. Position must maintain strict adherence to NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules and regulations affecting the sport and the University. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in counselor education, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or related discipline or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
