The Plant Science Department at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applicants for an Extension Associate position. The successful applicant will assist in the organization and delivery of educational events organized by the Agronomy Extension Team, with an emphasis in forage crop management, soil fertility, and nutrient management. They will assist in designing experiments, collecting and statistically analyzing data, and summarizing results for distribution in newsletters, presentations, fact sheets, and scientific publications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential, as is the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. The position will: supervise daily operation of field, greenhouse and laboratory research including the maintenance of field equipment, laboratory instruments, and crop health; assist in hiring, supervising, training and evaluating part-time employees; coordinate research with graduate and undergraduate students, and other persons associated with the research objectives; prepare reports and educational materials related to the research; attend and present at professional and producer conferences, workshops, and field days; represent the Agronomy Extension Team on state and national Certified Crop Advisor program committees; coordinate in-services for Agronomy Extension Team members. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree or equivalent in Agronomy or related discipline is highly preferred. Experience operating farm equipment, managing data, and conducting statistical analyses are desirable. Previous experience delivering educational programs or professional services to farmer and industry clientele is highly desired. Experience with soil fertility management, precision agriculture technologies, or nutrient management practices is highly desired. A “Class A” Commercial Driver's license and a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators License in category 18 are required within 90 days of hire. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
