Description

This position serves as a Chemical Demonstration Specialist for the Department of Chemistry Undergraduate Program. Duties include preparing and presenting materials for chemical demonstrations in lectures to enrich classroom learning; developing and communicating ideas utilizing media for lectures; consulting with faculty members on course content and developing creative ideas for demo options to focus on interactive learning; purchasing supplies needed to perform demos; collaborating with employees in machine shop and electronics shop on support services they can provide; developing molecular models and equipment used in lectures; and reviewing and maintaining course materials to assess current and future instructional needs. This position participates in more than 42 courses in the fall, spring, and summer. Understanding of basic chemistry concepts highly desired. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
