The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a 12-month postdoctoral research scholar position with a focus on interpersonal interaction in healthcare contexts, beginning July 1, 2018. We seek an individual with substantial expertise in the quantitative analysis of human interaction, including experience with behavioral coding and statistical analyses that address issues relevant to this type of data (e.g., interdependence, sequence). This individual’s appointment will support collaborative research with the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) and University Health Services to promote antibiotic stewardship, with a primary focus on understanding and intervening in doctor-patient interaction regarding the use of antibiotics. Correspondingly, ideal candidates will also possess expertise in one or more of the following domains: doctor-patient interaction, health campaigns and interventions, interpersonal interaction (especially with regard to social influence and health), experimental design, and grant-writing. Applications are welcomed from social scientists in Communication, Psychology, or allied disciplines. The successful applicant is expected to be in residence, work closely with CAS and CIDD faculty and UHS staff, and take an active part in the life of the CAS and CIDD programs. During residency, the scholar will have no teaching responsibilities. The successful applicant must also have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with federal guidelines for post-doctoral research fellows. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
