The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence (SITE) has an opening for a Grade 13 graduate assistant for the Fall 2018 semester. (Assuming successful performance of duties, the assistantship will continue in Spring 2019.) SITE provides teaching/learning resources to TAs and faculty across all Penn State locations. We work collaboratively with individual instructors, groups of instructors, departments, and colleges to develop teaching strategies that enhance student learning. We assist in developing assessment plans to determine the effectiveness of classroom innovations. Required: Status as a doctoral student who has completed all coursework and will have passed all aspects of the comprehensive exams before May 15, 2018; one or more semesters of autonomous teaching experience at the college level, in any discipline; interest in helping faculty and graduate students learn more about teaching. Beneficial but not required: Knowledge of learning theory, design, assessment, and/or educational evaluation; teaching experience with a variety of course formats (lecture, lab, seminar, recitation, online, etc.); experience as a peer teaching mentor or similar leadership role. Responsibilities: Facilitate existing teaching workshops and short courses such as the Course in College Teaching; develop new programs and workshops for a diverse clientele, particularly graduate student instructors and teaching assistants, including international teaching assistants; consult with instructors and TAs on course planning, delivery, and evaluation; keep up to date on teaching/learning research; develop Web and social media resources on teaching and learning.
