Penn State University Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA), a Division I, Big Ten Conference member institution, is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer, Football. Responsibilities include: Directly oversee, coordinate and provide health care and athletic training needs to student-athletes participating in football; maintain records and supplies and insure fiscal responsibility as it relates to student-athlete care. Coordinate care with sports medicine physicians in the integration of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies in order to ensure the student-athletes are able to effectively and safely return to full fitness/participation; work collaboratively with sport performance team members including assistant athletic directors for applied health and performance science, performance psychology, performance nutrition, and strength and conditioning to ensure positive student-athlete experience and treatment outcomes, and to mitigate the risk of sustaining injury. Manage and oversee full time, and athletic training students; conduct and supervise injury and illness prevention, injury management, immediate care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and provide ongoing education to ensure staff operate according to the protocols, expectations, and standing operating procedures outlined by the sports medicine physicians as required by Pennsylvania Law. This position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training Services and must be able to work in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The required qualifications include a Master's degree or higher in Sports Medicine, Training, Health, Biology, Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or Exercise Science and additional years of athletic training experience in a comparable athletic training setting or equivalent combination of education and experience; basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (First Aid/CPR/AED) certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) BOC Certification in good standing, and eligible for Athletic Trainer Certification within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interact and communicate effectively with a diverse student athlete population required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
