The School of Music at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a dynamic, collaborative double bass lecturer to be part of a vibrant string/orchestral program. This is a non-tenure track, 36-week full-time academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, with a start date of August 10, 2018. Primary responsibilities include teaching and recruiting double bass students, and teaching related courses such as string pedagogy, literature, orchestral excerpts, and chamber music. Additional teaching interests that cross disciplinary boundaries are particularly welcome, as are additional fields of musical expertise such as (but not limited to) jazz, music technology, and/or historical performance practice. A graduate degree in music is preferred, however, candidates with prominent professional performance experience may be considered. Candidates must have successful teaching experience, preferably at the university level. Applicants must have an outstanding record of performance and demonstrated success working in a team situation. The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain connections with area music educators and prospective students, and have a commitment to community engagement.
