Description

The Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position in finance starting immediately. Qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (Ph.D. or DBA required; ABDs considered at the instructor level). All areas of interests will be considered. A fit with the School’s interdisciplinary focus may be achieved by candidates demonstrating interest in interdisciplinary research and teaching in their application materials. Both high-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected. The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers 9 undergraduate majors, a residential MBA delivered at two locations, and a Masters in Project Management (MPM). Numerous faculty from the School of Business developed the University’s internationally ranked online MBA program as well as the undergraduate finance program through the World Campus. In addition, the school is in the process of developing a Masters in Financial Engineering. The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business and Engineering Studies degree, one of only a few such programs in the country, the MPM program, and an International Business degree which also requires all students to obtain a concurrent degree in a functional area such as marketing or finance. The Black School of Business occupies a new $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million dollar endowment provides significant support for the School’s programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives. Faculty members in Finance have published in top tier research journals including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Banking and Finance, The Journal of Financial Research, Financial Review, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, and the International Journal of Finance and Economics. Teaching Responsibilities: Standard teaching load consists of the equivalent of 15 credits for the academic year and could include undergraduate and graduate courses. (Could include online courses in the University’s on-line undergraduate finance minor offered through Penn State’s World campus or hybrid courses offered through graduate MBA program.) Research Support: Includes guaranteed summer research support, computing support for individual faculty members, full access to major statistical packages and databases, as well as funded travel to professional meetings. The University is an SAP Alliance partner and the Black School has an educational alliance with Oracle. Both SAP and Oracle functional databases are available for use by faculty and students. A partial listing of available databases includes: WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eventus, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream and Worldscope. Salary: Negotiable and competitive with AACSB-accredited schools of business. Employment offer includes funds for moving expenses. Location: Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the college’s 854-acre campus, located minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie has a population of over 280,000 and provides a variety of recreational and cultural activities year round. Erie is located at the intersection of major interstate highways nearly equidistant between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Local airport service is available in addition to easy access to the three international airports – all within two hours.
