Description

Serve as an Academic Adviser for the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. Assist students in resolving academic problems, make appropriate referrals and maintain academic records. Advise students in the selection of courses, major, long-range planning and in navigating University policies. This position assists with undergraduate orientation, new student registration, change of campus student programs, and various recruitment events. Act as liaison with other PSU campuses to communicate important College information, build relationships with campus representatives and with prospective students in the 2+2 program with goals of entering a Communications major at University Park. Organize engagement activities for Communications student including the Fall and Spring Involvement Fairs and Commencement Receptions, while also advising the College’s Student Council and supporting them in planning events. Maintain and update academic information to be distributed to students and posted online. Competencies for success include the ability to multitask, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, ability to handle large amounts of email, problem-solving skills, adaptable to learning new technologies, and most importantly, a passion for helping students succeed. PowerPoint/Prezi and web design experience is a plus. Occasional evening and weekend hours required to assist with programs. Travel to Commonwealth Campuses is also expected occasionally throughout the academic year. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
