The holder of this position will serve as the Financial Officer for the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, reporting through the Assistant Controller/Director of Financial Officers and will provide leadership in management of financial and budgetary matters for the dean, as well as for department heads within the college. Duties include strategic planning, regular financial analysis and reporting, all general funds and restricted funds management, financial aspects of post-award research administration, financial stewardship, budgeting, policy and procedure interpretation, guidance and compliance, oversight of financial systems and related approvals, general salary increase process, monitoring budgets to ensure planned resources are available to meet strategic objectives and coordination of internal audits and risk assessments. This position will also serve as the liaison to central University offices in the areas of budget, payroll, risk management, purchasing and others as needed. The successful candidate will also supervise, evaluate and train assigned staff. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in financial and budget management, analysis and forecasting, and strategic planning. This position requires a high degree of self-direction, including ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines at short notice, strong leadership skills, ability to lead and manage teams, and a strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity throughout the University. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to use advanced accounting and management software, communication skills to persuade and influence a variety of people to achieve results. Ability to manage complex problems crossing multiple functional areas ranging from policy/procedural issues, risk/legal matters and negotiations. Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
