Assign specific tasks and coordinate the efforts of Auto Mechanics, Body Repairers, and Refuse Drivers, and assigned unskilled workers; receive work orders from foreman; plan and layout work; assist above Mechanics and unskilled workers in technical aspects of work at the job site. Provide on-the-job leading and directing and make the majority of the technical decisions required to ensure work is performed correctly and efficiently. Follow up on jobs in progress to check quantity and quality of work and correct if necessary; ensure adherence to work schedules. Complete daily job progress reports for foreman, as required. Indicate any problems that may be present, such as material shortage, equipment breakdown, etc., report job completed; responsible for quality for workmanship. Perform duties of Auto Mechanic A as required. Arrange for and/or deliver men, materials, equipment, etc., to the job site. Assist with training and orienting of Auto Mechanics; answer questions for Auto Mechanics, Body Repairers, and unskilled workmen. Assist in assuring that safe working conditions prevail at all times on the job; report problems to foreman. Correct improper methods and procedures of Auto Mechanics, Body Repairers, and Refuse Drivers, and unskilled workmen; report problems to foreman. Work with customers to obtain specific details regarding jobs to be done, as appropriate; make minor adjustments of work specifications, as required; refer problems to foreman. In the absence of foreman, ensure daily completion of time cards and turn in to management for approval. Function as a communication point between Auto Mechanics, Body Repairers, and Refuse Drivers, unskilled workers, and management by answering and/or referring questions, problems, etc., to the foreman. Distribute announcements, notices, and other communications as required. Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above. Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Knowledge of repair and maintenance of a wide variety of mobile equipment, a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) with Class A, Tanker and Hazardous Materials Endorsements with L & C Restrictions removed, MACS or equivalent air conditioning certification, Class 1 and 3 Pennsylvania State Inspection License. Over 3 years up to and including 5 years effective experience. Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS. NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TRESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINIATION REQUIREMENTS PER 67 PA. CODE 231.85.
