The Sustainability Institute and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) are looking for a goal/results orientated candidate to coordinate waste reduction efforts during athletic events. A successful candidate must have a basic understanding of current sustainability issues/concepts, a passion for Penn State’s athletic traditions, and exceptional written and in-person communication skills. Candidates with a background doing psycho-social research on a diverse population are encouraged to apply. Duties include: Act as program coordinator for the President’s Box Zero-Waste efforts and Tailgate Ambassador program during home football games. Work with ICA staff to coordinate a ‘Green Game Day’ during Blue and White weekend. Develop partnerships with the Blue and White Society and ICA Marketing to encourage environmentally friendly fan behavior and maximize collaboration. The Associate Director for Student Engagement at the Sustainability Institute will provide day-to-day supervision with strong mentorship from the ICA Facilities Operations/Management staff. The position will have a flexible start date in Spring and run through the summer and academic year (February 2018 – May 2019). Working hours are flexible with a minimum of 10 hours during the academic year and an increase up to 30+ hours for the summer. Support for sustainability-focused research can also be provided.
