Perform a variety of duties required to start, stop, operate and monitor all power plant systems and utilities. Operate power plant equipment and auxiliaries such as oil fired and natural gas fired boilers, combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators. Check and adjust various operating parameters such as boiler water level, steam pressure, quality of stack emissions, steam temperature, boiler flue gas temperature, furnace pressure, etc. Tour facility on a regular basis to make observations, necessary equipment adjustments and gather required meter readings. Detect equipment or system problems and contact the Lead Power Plant Operator or Supervisor for further instructions. Maintain various records concerning plant operations to include inspection and maintenance schedules, reports of systems readings, fuel supplies and orders, etc. Perform water analyses as required, including boiler water, feedwater, condensate, cooling water and potable water. Add chemicals and make necessary adjustments to maintain water chemistry within prescribed limits. Maintain inventory of chemicals. Check fuel supply daily. Receive fuel deliveries from vendors. Clean, lubricate and perform preventative maintenance/minor repairs on power plant systems and their components such as steam traps, valves, and pipes. Detect and report unusual conditions and/or defective materials to appropriate personnel. Safeguard equipment and personnel at all times. Implement emergency procedures when any equipment malfunction occurs. Operate various hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, pipe wrenches, pipe threader, saws, etc. Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Operate University vehicles in the performance of assigned duties, as required. Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience. Shift: Rotating Days Off: Rotating NOTE: EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
