The Research Technologist (Technician) position is available in the laboratory of Milena Bogunovic, M.D., Ph.D. in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Penn State University College of Medicine (Hershey, PA). The lab’s areas of expertise include mucosal immunology and neuroimmune interactions in the gastrointestinal tract centered on mononuclear phagocytes (dendritic cells and macrophages). The Research Technologist is expected to perform a variety of specialized tasks associated with conducting research experiments in the basic science laboratory including work with human and mouse tissues and human and mouse pathogens. The responsibilities will include maintenance and genotyping of a mouse colony; establishing and optimizing research methods; analyzing, summarizing and reporting the data/results of experiments; assisting in writing research summaries; overseeing daily operations of the laboratory including purchasing reagents and lab supplies, managing laboratory budget; creating and maintaining electronic inventory of reagents and samples and other managerial responsibilities. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The position requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences, strong communication skills and knowledge of basic computer skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Previous experience of working in a research lab (particularly with mice) and records of productive research including publications in major peer reviewed journals are preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
