As Penn State begins a new strategic fundraising campaign, A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence, a seasoned and successful development leader is needed in the role of Director of Development to engage alumni and friends as partners in supporting Penn State Altoona, a flagship campus of The Pennsylvania State University and an educational leader in the Central Pennsylvania region. This position serves as the senior major gifts fundraiser at the campus and provides direction and leadership for all development and alumni relations activities at Penn State Altoona, based on a clear understanding of - and with an exceptional ability to articulate - its mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director of Development located at University Park, but he or she will also have a strong and collaborative partnership with the campus chancellor and work closely with volunteers and central development staff to achieve fundraising success. This position will: Lead Penn State Altoona’s efforts in the new campaign and serve as the public face of development for the greater Penn State Altoona community and beyond; Manage a staff of five and oversee all campus fundraising activities, ensuring maximum productivity and the successful achievement of individual and unit metrics; develop annual goals, plans, and budgets for a comprehensive fundraising program; Provide professional leadership and guidance in executing development strategies, identifying and soliciting top prospects, and partnering with key stakeholders (including volunteers, faculty, and staff); personally manage a portfolio of top prospects, completing an average minimum of twelve visits each month and soliciting and securing major gifts. The successful candidate will also have: A track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals; demonstrated understanding of shared governance and that academics is the core of a successful college; experience in managing and leading goal-oriented teams and in planning development strategies; exemplary interpersonal and communication skills; passion for higher education and an understanding of complex institutions; appreciation for and understanding of diverse audiences and communities. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree plus seven years of work related experience. Prior campaign experience is preferred. The Director of Development must be able to travel, and operation of a motor vehicle as part of the position’s duties and a valid driver's license are required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check, in addition to standard background checks, is also required.
