Description

Penn State Extension, Westmoreland County is seeking an Administrative Support Assistant to provide operational and administrative support to the Westmoreland County Extension Office. This position will provide administrative support for the Smart Growth Partnership of Westmoreland County and assist Penn State Extension educators with the development and completion of grant opportunities. The position of Administrative Assistant will also include secretarial duties; maintain and manage multiple databases, answer phones, greetings, referring, assisting visitors, clients, staff or others, preparing documents and reports, using office technology, compiling records, scheduling meetings, organizing and maintaining information, and provide general office support to education program areas served through the Westmoreland County Extension office. This position will also be one of the main ERS processors for Area 10. Duties may be from general to more advanced responsibility. Maintain a professional appearance, represent Penn State University and Westmoreland Cooperative Extension in a professional manner, and exercise sound professional judgment in carrying out duties assigned by the Business Operations Manager, Client Relations Manager and Extension Educators. The Administrative Support Assistant should be able to assume the temporary/occasional role and duties of the other office support staff. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In-Depth knowledge of the Smart Growth Partnership, successful experience with grant writing especially for USDA and other agencies typically served by Penn State Extension, and a working knowledge of ERS through Penn State University preferred. Preferred competencies include: Knowledge of Microsoft office products: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher; proficiency in the use of internet, Google, file formats, documents retrievals, sending and receiving emails; excellent phone skills; excellent grammar and proofreading skills; ability to work independently and the ability to multi-task, ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced ever-changing environment; resourcefulness. Experience in a team environment with excellent team skills is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is an 87.5% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. This individual will work 35 hours/week, Monday through Friday. Some occasional evening/weekend work for events/meetings may require a flexible workday schedule. Full Penn State benefits included.
