The Student Farm at Penn State is offering a paid position for a current Penn State students interested in working for the farm as a graphic design intern. Visit to learn more about the program. Under supervision of the Sustainable Food Systems Program director, this intern will be responsible for overseeing the visual identity of both the Student Farm and SFSP, as it appears online, in print, and in official promotional materials. This position is part time (~6-10 hours/week, dependent on current program needs) and much of the work can be done remotely. The position is for the 2018-2019 academic year, with the possibility to start this summer. Responsibilities include: Design and execute print and digital materials to market Student Farm events and SFSP; create visual aspects of marketing materials, websites, social media, infographics, etc.; help to determine message(s) that designs convey; help to develop communications strategy; incorporate changes suggested by communications team and other stakeholders; pullThis is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. together disparate elements of a design created by previous interns, such as icons, photographs, wordmarks, fonts, styles, and other components; consult with the Farm’s existing marketing materials, copy, and event flyers to create cohesive yet innovative designs that reflect the Farm’s culture and goals; and ideally candidate is proficient in creating written PR content, social media management. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills, a demonstrated willingness to work in a team environment, and the ability to work independently. Applicants must also be able to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate proficiency in both digital and traditional design mediums, and who excel in creating content for print, web, and social media. Mastery of design software and technologies (InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc.) is ideal. Experience with HTML code and website content management systems (ex: Wordpress) is desired, but not required. Previous experience in food systems or related fields is welcome but not as necessary as the motivation to learn. Above all, creativity and versatility are important skills. Pay is $11.00 per hour. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license, own transportation to the Student Farm, and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
