The Penn State Altoona Department of Engineering seeks a Research Technologist to oversee the operation of the electrical laboratories associated with our engineering and engineering technology programs. Responsibilities of the successful candidate shall include: Maintaining inventory of lab supplies and equipment; providing emergency classroom response for equipment issues in laboratories; Installation, calibration, and maintenance of electrical lab equipment; setup of lab exercises; troubleshooting of repair of equipment and printed circuit boards; assisting with the installation, setup, and management of laboratory software and computers; documenting and maintaining records associated with lab equipment; providing specialized assistance and training to faculty, staff and students as necessary; supervising, training, and directing student employees; supervising laboratory users and assure compliance with safety and lab policies; creating and supporting an engaging atmosphere for undergraduate students. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with standard electrical laboratory test equipment, data acquisition hardware and software, rapid prototyping tools, Programmable Logic Controllers, and industry standard software such LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink, and Rockwell Automation. Knowledge of personal computer platforms and operating systems including Windows is required. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of re-funding.
