Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development’s Outreach Office invites applications for an instructional designer who will work in collaboration with faculty and our learning design team to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online courses and other learning resources. We seek a creative, flexible, and resourceful individual who will embrace and foster a team approach to designing effective student-centered learning experiences. The successful candidate must have a strong knowledge in instructional systems and learning theories and be able to communicate and apply best practices for the design and delivery of online and hybrid courses. We are looking for someone who will be able to generate and articulate ideas for innovative approaches to learning and who will partner well with faculty, multimedia specialists, and other course team member to bring those ideas to fruition. Candidates must have experience working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and be able to assess and implement emerging educational technologies while applying strategies in universal design. This individual must have strong self-management skills, as well as demonstrated success in providing leadership and diplomacy when managing team-based projects. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills are essential. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
