The College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State Extension seeks to hire two part-time Mosquito-borne Disease Program Technicians. The individuals will function as team members of the Lancaster County Extension Team, and will report to the Mosquito-borne Disease Program Coordinator. Major responsibilities will include conducting mosquito surveillance, control and Integrated Mosquito Management practices throughout Lancaster County. Key duties include fieldwork, data collection, data entry along with adult mosquito and larval control activities in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection staff. The position requires a B.S., Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in entomology, environmental science, biology or closely related field. Applicants must have the physical ability to walk and work in heavily wooded and in wet areas. Applicants must currently possess or be able to acquire a PA Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License. Applicants must also possess the ability to lift 50 pounds with or without accommodation, transport and set up equipment on uneven terrain in isolated areas, and work in inclement weather conditions. Applicant must have excellent attendance and punctuality in meeting assigned program tasks, strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability repair small motors and other machines. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver`s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
