Primary responsibilities include executing NSO check-in for over 500 participants daily, including students, parents, and families; planning major summer and fall Welcome Week events; handling confidential student records with responsibility and care; engaging with students, parents, and family members while providing a welcoming environment; assisting with other programs within SOTP as needed; and maintaining flexibility in a demanding, fast-paced work environment. Interested applicants must be a current Penn State student at University Park who plans to be enrolled in the spring and fall 2018 semesters, and maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA. Successful candidates will participate in a weekly training session in the second half of the spring semester. This training will take place on Mondays from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. beginning March 12, 2018. Staff will average 15 hours/week and must be available from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday for NSO Check-In. The balance of the weekly schedule will be created based on individual availability. Members of the Welcome Crew are free to hold other jobs on- and/or off-campus, as well as to take summer courses, as long as they are able to fulfill their Welcome Crew obligations. If another job is held on-campus, total hours worked in one week may not exceed 40. Welcome Crew will gain improved work ethic, leadership experience, collaboration, communication, and public speaking skills; and have an opportunity to network with university staff. Interested applicants should fill out an online application and upload a current resume. Preference will be given to applicants whose materials are complete by Monday, February 12, 2018 and who are available on the Monday 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. timeframe.
