The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute, College of Engineering, is seeking an undergraduate engineering student for an ongoing year-round co-op program. This position is for 40 hours per week for a maximum of 16 weeks. This particular position is for the summer 2018 semester. The assignment will involve field evaluations of PennDOT buildings and grounds systems including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment; utilities; and electrical; environmental; lighting; and structural components and building envelopes. The data collected will be entered into a database for delivery to the agency. The work will be supervised by a qualified engineer. The position is based at University Park, but will involve extensive travel throughout Pennsylvania. All travel costs will be reimbursed. This position will provide a unique opportunity for a student to gain the valuable practical experience of fieldwork, combined with a professional office setting, and remain based at University Park. Excellent communication skills are required for interaction with clients. Computer skills are required, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Applicants must be at least 21 years old or have completed a University-sponsored driver-training program prior to the time of their University employment. Since this position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties, a valid driver`s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
