Penn State’s Outdoor Education Field Lab – Shaver’s Creek – is seeking a passionate, creative, and motivated individual to serve as Communications and Program Coordinator for the AURORA Outdoor Orientation Programs. This position will be responsible for the creation and management of marketing materials, both electronic and print, that express the message of the AURORA programs in order to recruit students. This position will serve as the face of AURORA at various campus events, including New Student Orientation, Spend a Summer Day, and more. This position will also manage AURORA’s online presence, including the AURORA portion of the Shaver’s Creek website, as well as various social media outlets. This position will also support the directors when it comes to programming, both on and off-site. Responsibilities may include correspondence with program participants and parents, coordination of programming and staff training, on-the-fly problem solving, and other programming requirements. Candidate must have strong working experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, as well as Wordpress and basic word-processing. Candidate is expected to document, through photos and video, the AURORA programs both in preparation for and during the active season. Candidate may be tasked with producing short videos, which may include interviews with students and staff. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field if preferred, plus experience in relevant field. Candidate may be enrolled in Wilderness First Aid certification course if not already certified. A successful candidate will become an integral member of a Shaver's Creek staff that prides itself on a culture of collaboration, shared decision making, respect, and trust from leadership to make decisions in individual program areas that benefit the strategic goals of the whole. Candidates should also possess a strong environmental ethic consistent with the mission of Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center; a zero-waste facility situated 12 miles from University Park campus within Penn State’s 7,000 acre Stone Valley Forest. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
