Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences seeks to hire a part-time Curatorial Assistant. This selected candidate assists the Director, Assistant Director, and Adjunct Curator on all curatorial matters related to the museum’s Geological Collection Management rehousing project at the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum Center for Education, Research, and Collections. Summary of essential job responsibilities: Handling geological specimens and related ancillary items (labels, trays, mounts). Assisting with moving specimens out of old cabinetry into new cabinetry. Updating digital and paper files associated with specimens. Assists with project management tasks for the museum including creating storage mounts, mapping collection locations, and monitoring and recording collection storage conditions. Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree and desire for experience working with collections in a museum setting. Strong computer skills required, experience with PastPerfect database software preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fine motor skills required. Ability to think spatially required. Ability to lift various specimen and objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation, required.
