New Student Orientation Team LeaderAcademic Affairs, the Office of the Division of Undergraduate Studies and Student Affairs is seeking aspiring undergraduate students at the Greater Allegheny campus to serve as NSO (New Student Orientation) Team Leaders. NSO Team Leaders will play a key role in providing a quality transitional experience for incoming first-year students through the New Student Orientation (NSO) and Welcome Week programs. NSO Team Leaders assist incoming Penn State students as well as their family members by providing an introduction to the campus and its resources, speaking about the transition from high school to college, and acting as a representative of The Pennsylvania State University. Primary responsibilities include preparing for Orientation programs, ensuring that orientation groups move through their workshops in a timely manner, providing general assistance during NSO and Welcome Week, and talking about the college transition by sharing information on adjusting to college expectations and demands. NSO Team Leaders respond in a professional manner to questions from students and families about university life using personal experiences, and encourage students to establish meaningful connections with other first-year students. NSO Team Leaders are expected to actively engage with students and families who attend Orientation programs while providing a welcoming environment for all new Penn Staters at Greater Allegheny. Other expectations include general staff assistance to academic affairs, DUS and Student Affairs during the summer in preparation for Orientation activities. Interested applicant must be a current full-time Penn State undergraduate student, will have obtained at least 24 credits by the end of the Spring 2017 semester, and maintains a 2.0 or higher GPA. All applicants must participate in Child Abuse Training, a Penn State Student Conduct Record check and a background check. NSO Team Leaders must be available to work NSO on the following dates: June 6, June 15, June 21, June 27, July 9, July 24, August 3 and Welcome Week August 13-17. Availability for Orientation dates is non-negotiable. Additional summer hours in preparation will also be assigned. NSO Team Leaders will gain improved work ethic, time management, collaboration, and leadership, communication, and public speaking skills; have an opportunity to network with campus faculty and staff; and gain an increased understanding of careers in higher education.
