University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a self-motivated, detail oriented individual to join our Health Information Management (Medical Records) team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing medical record documentation and performing monitoring activities to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), federal and state laws, accrediting and organization standards for medical record documentation and dissemination. Primary duties include: Perform quality control audits to ensure uniformity and compliance with departmental procedures, perform health information management compliance audits, and assist with the processing of requests for release of information and disclosure protected health information in accordance with HIPAA, HITECH and Pennsylvania state law. This position will review clinical documentation to ensure compliance with AAAHC standards and adherence to organizational medical record documentation policies as well as research documentation concerns and make recommendations for correction. Assist with the scanning of electronic health information, answering of departmental phone lines and providing in-person customer service. Typically requires an Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or related field or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as an RHIT or RHIA highly preferred. Specialized knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH and AAAHC Standards is also desired. Knowledge and experience using electronic health records, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems as well as performance of qualitative and quantitative medical record analysis is highly desired. Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills.
