The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Department Head. The Department seeks a dynamic and innovative leader who is dedicated to promoting excellence in our diverse teaching, research, extension, and service programs. The individual will play a key role in developing future growth directions for an internationally recognized faculty that are engaged in several disciplines of biomedical and veterinary research, including immunology and infectious disease, toxicology, virology, carcinogenesis, veterinary extension, diagnostic laboratory services and applied veterinary research. The successful candidate should have a broad vision for the Department and provide strategic leadership to enhance the strength and cohesiveness of the Department’s programmatic areas and its interdisciplinary efforts with other Colleges and within Penn State’s Institute structure, including the Huck Life Sciences ( and Penn State Cancer Institute ( The candidate will share a strong focus on students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and lead fundraising initiatives in development and alumni relations. Previous experience in academic, administrative or professional leadership, and a commitment to promote the college’s diversity goals is required. The candidate must possess a distinguished record of scientific and educational accomplishment in an area encompassed by the Department’s multi-disciplinary faculty (, possess an earned doctoral level degree in an allied biomedical science discipline and be qualified for appointment with tenure.
