A full-time position is available immediately as a Biological Scientist in a Pediatric cancer research lab at the Penn State College of Medicine. The qualified applicant will work independently to design and conduct research projects including managing the experiments and projects within the lab, as well as identifying and solving technical issues within the experiment. They may manage multiple projects and will consult with others to collaborate in the development of new techniques, and develop protocol and criteria. They will be responsible for the day to day operation within Dr. Huang's busy lab. This would include ordering supplies, staying current on lab equipment maintenance and usage, training others on lab equipment and techniques as well as any other duties to keep the day to day lab running smoothly. This person will review and analyze data, review progress and evaluate results to improve quality and find solutions as needed. This person will keep all lab databases up to date. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preference will be given to applicants with 2-3 year prior experience in a hematology or cancer research lab. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
