The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is seeking a highly motivated, professional Academic Adviser to join our academic services group. The successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment of working effectively with students in a team environment in a growing and changing college. The individual will be responsible for providing academic advising to students enrolled in and exploring the majors in the College of IST; interpreting university policies, procedures, and curriculum to students and faculty; guiding students in course selection, scheduling and long-range planning; assisting in resolving academic problems, monitoring academic process and making professional referrals; maintaining confidentiality of student records; and for developing and executing new and creative strategies in academic services that support student success. The candidate will respond to a high volume of emails, phone calls, and individual meetings about University processes and degree requirements. Participate in new student orientation and other college and university programs as appropriate. Competencies critical to success are a demonstrated passion for student success, ability to build strong partnerships, exceptional customer services instincts, ability to multitask, commitment to teamwork and accountability for the whole, data driven decision making, excellent communication skills, creative problem solving skills, and a sense of humor. Working knowledge of Windows and word processing is required. Knowledge of LionPATH, Starfish, Excel, and University policies and procedures is preferred. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
