The College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State Extension Lycoming County seeks to hire a 4-H Youth Assistant. The overriding responsibilities of the persons in these positions are to assist the 4-H Program Assistant and 4-H Coordinator. This will be accomplished under the supervision of the 4-H Program Assistant, in their areas of program responsibility, by the 4-H Coordinator, in their areas of program responsibility, and ultimately by the 4-H Coordinator. The 4-H/Youth Assistants will be involved in traditional 4-H work as well as innovative programs related to youth. Audiences will be mostly youth but will frequently include adult volunteers. Specific Duties: Camp Counselor Training and 4-H Camp, including planning, preparations, and chaperoning. County, Multi-County, State, and National 4-H events - assist with the planning, preparing and conducting of county 4-H events, coordinate registrations and participation in regional, state, and national 4-H events, sometimes chaperoning. Food stand preparation, inventory, stocking, supervision, maintenance, closure, etc. at the Lycoming County Fair, including some responsibilities to be determined. 4-H Roundup – help recruit judges, help with preparations, set up and clean-up. Summer Day Camp Programming - make contact with child care centers and schedule appearances, create curriculum, prepare program, introduce selected 4-H projects at multiple locations and revisit to judge projects, with assistance and support of 4-H Program Assistant or other staff. County Council - attend some meetings and assist with preparations for those meetings, assist with their Fair Club Exhibit, and assist with other teen activities. Leader training – offer workshop(s) at Leadership Night and as needed. 4-H Program Enhancement-organize project materials, update 4-H Lending Library, develop or improve project materials and resources. Anticipated Hours: These duties will be performed, some in collaboration with the other 4-H/Youth Assistant, the 4-H Program Assistant or the 4-H Coordinator, in about 500 hours/year. The responsibilities are part-time year-round, with a much heavier workload in the summer months. Work hours are flexible and negotiable within job constraints. Wages:The current pay rate is $10.00 per hour. Travel costs, other than regular commutes to the office, will be reimbursed at the current Lycoming County government rate. Qualifications: Some writing skill, computer skills, and the ability to speak publicly are required. A valid driver`s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
