Penn State IT Marketing and Public Relations seeks a skilled and enthusiastic Public Relations Specialist to join our team. This position will craft a range of communications across traditional and digital media, focusing on developing a comprehensive public relations strategy to maximize the impact and showcase the value Penn State IT. Primary duties include researching, interviewing sources, and translating complex subject matter into compelling press releases, features, story tips/ideas for a diverse audience that includes the news media, internal and external stakeholders, key constituents, and the community-at-large. This position will produce content for print, online, and digital media, including websites, print publicity, and social media; exploring and developing new communication channels; developing and maintaining a portfolio of local and national media; assessing and documenting the ongoing effectiveness of Penn State IT’s public relations strategy and efforts through data and metrics. This position demands not only superlative communication skills but also an ability to collaborate successfully with both individuals and teams, adapt to the needs and interests of a wide variety of audiences, and handle multiple deadlines with minimal supervision. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of AP and Chicago style is preferred, but not required. Demonstrated competencies in the following areas are desired: public relations; journalistic research and writing; and production of print, online, and digital media. Candidates should be prepared to submit samples of work to show breadth of experience in these formats.
