Penn State Executive Programs in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) is seeking a Director of Learning and Development in Executive Education. The position will be responsible for developing organizational client relationships for non-degree professional and executive development programs. The Director, Learning and Development is responsible for the development, execution and maintenance of key government and corporate partnerships (“the clients”) with Penn State Executive Programs. The partnerships will result in the creation and delivery of educational programs between the clients and Executive Education as well as open enrollment program participation by the clients or, individuals. The position is located in State College, PA. Primary duties include but are not limited to: Identifying and calling on prospective clients including corporations, government entities, associations, and other organizations to cultivate strong client relationships and build a portfolio of clientele to assure profitable growth aligned with Penn State’s mission and values; collaborate with faculty directors, program directors, program managers, program specialists, and faculty for successful pursuit and delivery of an executive education portfolio; develop and respond to requests for proposals, presentations and negotiations of contracts for Executive Education Programs; support the execution of the Penn State Executive Programs strategy to identify market opportunities and trends in educational services. The role will be responsible for significantly increasing programs enrollments and client relationships over time. The primary responsibility is to both maintain existing and, to increase the number of custom client relationships. Responsibilities also include: relationship building, analyzing trends in executive education, coordinating market communications, developing and negotiating proposals and contracts, and project and client relationship management. The ideal candidate should have the following characteristics: previous management experience; proven track record in business development and complex corporate sales; practiced in consultative selling and relationship building and has the ability to engage clients for open enrollment and custom programs for effective executive education experiences; excellent communication skills, a natural team player and the ability to engage with very different profiles and a diverse international clientele (e.g. clients, faculty, staff); experience of dealing with the most senior executives within the organization; strong project and program management; ability to multi-task and to cope well with pressure; strong negotiation and influencing skills, and good resolution conflict ability; energy, drive and an entrepreneurial spirit and approach to work. Preferred consideration will be given to candidates with discernable distinction, knowledge, and business experience in the areas of Supply Chain management (preferred) and/or Leadership and Strategy; facilitation or instructional design experience; and expertise in learning evaluation. Requires a Master’s degree or higher and 7+ years of related experience. PhD in a related field preferred. The ability to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally is required. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver`s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
