Description

The Hines Lab (hineslab.org) in the Biology and Entomology Departments is seeking a temporary lab technician for 20-24 hours/week to work on projects related to bee disease ecology and bee developmental genetics. This position will run for 6 months, preferably starting in January 2018, with possibility for continued funding. The Yechnician will perform 3 major tasks: care of live bumble bee colonies, including some bee handling for developmental research projects; molecular screens for bee pathogens on preserved specimens including some combination of DNA and RNA extractions, PCR and quantitative PCR, and gel electrophoresis; and routine lab maintenance and management tasks. Molecular experience acquired in a research laboratory in some of the above techniques is required. Experience and interest in animal care is desired. Applicants must be at undergraduate senior-level or higher with a degree focus in the life sciences.
