The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University ( is seeking applications for a Assistant Research Professor to join an ongoing NIH-funded collaborative research project investigating embryonic development of the skull. We seek an experienced, responsible, motivated person to conduct two-photon laser-scanning microscopy of embryonic specimens of transgenic mice in order to track the distribution of fluorescently labeled osteoblast lineage cells of cranial vault bones in 3D. The new hire will work with an established team to determine the appropriate set of optical filters, lenses, and assorted optomechanical parts to optimize the imaging setup for the proposed experiments and will be responsible for acquisition, storage, visualization and analysis of these images. The new hire will also be responsible for transfer, organization and storage of microCT images that derive from the Center for Quantitative Imaging at Penn State (¬) as well as segmentation, analysis, and visualization of these images. Candidates for this position should have experience with current methods used to quantify growing tissues as well as techniques used in microCT imaging, processing, and analysis. Experience with software packages such as Avizo, ImageJ, and VGStudio Max preferred. The anticipated start date for the position can be as early as January 2018, but is negotiable. The position will last one year with an opportunity of renewal for a second year. Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree or have completed all of the requirements for a PhD.
